Establishes *where* you live (must have Name + Address).
PoR: Proof of Relationship

PDB: Proof of Date of Birth

Securing the Next Generation: Enrolment for Minors
The rules for enrolling children have been streamlined and secured, with a clear distinction based on their date of birth.

Aadhaar for a Global India
UIDAI has clarified the rules for non-resident and foreign nationals. The key difference often lies in the mandatory residency period.
Category | Primary PoI | Key Condition |
---|---|---|
Non-Resident Indian (NRI) | Valid Indian Passport | ✅ No minimum stay required |
Overseas Citizen (OCI) | Valid OCI Card + Foreign Passport | ❌ 182+ days stay in India |
Other Foreign National | Valid Foreign Passport + Indian Visa | ❌ 182+ days stay in India |
National of Nepal/Bhutan | Passport of Nepal/Bhutan | ✅ No minimum stay required |
Note: All categories require a valid proof of Indian address and a mandatory email ID for enrolment.
Check the Expiry Date!
To ensure data accuracy, certain documents are only valid for a limited time when used as Proof of Address.
UIDAI's new rules emphasize the use of current, verifiable documents. This is especially true for proofs of address, like utility bills and bank statements, which must now be recent to be accepted. Always check the issue date on your documents before visiting an enrolment center.
- 3 Months: Electricity, Water, Gas, Telephone Bills, Bank Statements.
- 1 Year: Property Tax Receipts, Government Accommodation Allotment Letters.
- Long-Term: Passports, PAN Cards, Voter IDs, Driving Licences.
Your Aadhaar Security Checklist
Lock Your Biometrics
Use the myAadhaar portal or mAadhaar app to lock your fingerprints and iris scans. This prevents misuse. Unlock them only when you need to authenticate.
Use Masked Aadhaar
When sharing your Aadhaar, download the "Masked Aadhaar" version. It only shows the last 4 digits, protecting your full number.
Never Share OTPs
Your Aadhaar OTP is a private key for transactions. UIDAI will never call or email you asking for it. Be vigilant against scams.
Check Authentication History
Periodically review your authentication history on the UIDAI website to spot any unauthorized use of your Aadhaar number immediately.
